5 New Videos!

Well it's freezing outside and I'm sick at home with a cold. :( I've been playing more with video so you can check it out if you like. I desperately need better lighting and a better table setup or something because I'm not loving the video. Yes, I'm a bit of a perfectionist. hehe I can't believe the color difference in the video opposed to the photos (non-color corrected too). Maybe I just need a new camcorder. *shrug* Anyhoo, I hope you enjoy a sneak peek into how I work. :) (oh and btw, the reason there are 5 videos is youtube now only allows 10 minute clips at a time. Lame huh? I need to find something else that I can use that won't break them up like that. )

Hi Sarah
I really enjoyed watching the evolution of your pages. It's so interesting just to watch how other artists work!

Thank you so much for posting these videos. I was in a slump with my art journaling and your videos lite a spark in me. Thanks for the inspiration,

I loved watching your process on a lazy Sunday morning! Makes me realize I need to have more than one journal so I can work with several different techniques and styles. For some reason i couldn't get Part 2, but everything else was fine. Probably just my computer. I agree with you when you say that you might not like a page at the beginning, but keep going, it will all work out. Some of my favorite pages were made like that!

Can you please talk more about those pencils you have in that box next to you (and pens for journaling too)
thank you very much for letting us enjoy your process

Thank you so much for this inspirational video. You have given me some great ideas for my own journal and made me feel motivated to get started again after taking time off over the holidays. Could you tell me what the pens are that you used and what kind of oil pastels.

Karyl said...

Thank you, Sarah, for the inspiration on a cold morning! What brand of oil pastels do you like to use?

Sarah Whitmire said...

Thanks for all the kind comments everyone! They really mean a lot to me. The brand of pen I used is called Rapidograph, size 3/.80 and 1/.50 and the brand of oil pastels is Sennelier. They are awesome. I probably pronounced the name wrong in the video. oops.

Hi Carmen,

The pencil case you see next to me is my drawing kit. In there I have a complete range of drawing pencils from lightest to darkest(B HB B H 2H and F). Soft, Medium and Hard Charcoal Pencils, Woodless Pencils, blending stumps and a small sharpner. It is not something I bought all together but rather, I found a case I liked and purchased the pencils seperately over the years. I have quite a few random pencils in there also from previous drawing and art classes I have taken. There are many nice drawing kits on the market with a good selection of pencils. Try looking at your local art store for these. :)

Hope that helps!

Thanks so much for sharing your process... it was really helpful to see how you add depth to your pages... something I've been struggling with. My puppers loved hearing Oliver barking... they started looking for him!
Thanks, Emie

So interesting, Sarah! I prefer working with non-toxic materials also.... Wish more companies would create those type of products. Thanks so much for the inspiration.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge of art journalling and posting these videos.

I have been inspired by your 22 day prompts to start experimenting with layering and colour and making some art for the first time in many years.

Hi Sarah

I didn't understand well what kind of flueds you've put as different layers. Don't recognize the brands - don't have them here around i suppose (Netherlands)
Besides the name and brand: Why did you put that many different layers? What is the use of it I mean.

thanks, Mincka

Sarah Whitmire said...

The fluids I used were Golden brand. The reason I use so many layers is they compound to add depth to my work. Thanks for your great question! :)
